Cinnamon Zest French Toast

Treat yourself to a fabulous plant-based breakfast with our Cinnamon Zest French Toast! This recipe is egg and dairy-free, relying instead on wholesome nut milk that is flavored with date paste, orange zest, vanilla and cinnamon, then cooked using an oil-free griddle. A perfect breakfast treat for a relaxed weekend at home with the family.


  • 1 cup Homemade Nut Milk
  • 5 to 6 slices of thick bread
  • 2 tablespoons finely ground chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon date paste or maple syrup
  • 1/2 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • PREP TIME 15
  • COOK TIME 10
  • Serves 2-3


  1. In a bowl, whisk ground chia seeds and nut milk. Let mixture set for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat griddle on medium heat.
  3. Add date paste or maple syrup, vanilla extract, orange zest and cinnamon to bowl and whisk.
  4. Coat both sides of a piece of bread in mixture and place on griddle. Cook for 2 minutes on each side, or until each side browned and cooked inside.
  5. Serve with syrup or a tablespoon of cashew cream sprinkled with orange zest and cinnamon.
