What is Integrative Medicine?

Integrative medicine or health care is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to health promotion that combines complementary and conventional therapies.  Integrative Medicine takes into account the whole person (body, mind and spirit) and holds that proper lifestyle choices are key to the treatment and prevention of many chronic diseases. Some of the mind and body practices contained in an integrative approach include acupuncture, massage, meditation, movement therapies, relaxation techniques, yoga and nutrition.

What about Integrative Medicine at the University of California Davis?

Here at the University our mission is to help prevent chronic disease by educating people about how to make positive changes in their lifestyle habits. We are committed to sharing information about a variety of topics such as nutrition, exercise, stress management and smoking cessation. However, our strongest focus is in the area of nutrition and plant-based diets which we believe is the number one way to successfully prevent, halt or reverse serious health conditions such as obesity, hypertension, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
