“The best thing about being who you really are is that you simply cannot fail!
Be you, be awesome and live awesomely.”
Life can be stressful.
We feel pressure at work and home.
We worry about a myriad of things — from paying the bills to educating our kids to health care.
On top of all of that, thanks to the tech revolution, every year life just seems to go faster and faster, which adds to the tension.
Given all of that, it is easy to forget the simple moments.
Which is why today, we can all stop for a moment to celebrate the Day of Awesomeness — the perfect holiday to be grateful, celebrate the little moments, and remember that some of the best things in life are indeed free.
What Is the International Day of Awesomeness?
The International Day of Awesomeness is celebrated on the 10th of March, and the purpose is to honor people, places, things, and ideas that are awesome.
The official tagline is “No one is perfect, but everyone can be awesome.”
This holiday began inauspiciously in August 2007 when an intern who worked for Kevin Lawver suggested that Kevin’s ‘awesomeness’ should be celebrated.
Still joking, Kevin declared on Twitter that there should be an International Day of Awesomeness.
And much to everyone’s surprise, the idea took on a life of its own.
What Does Awesomeness Mean Anyway?
While awesomeness is not a real word, ‘awesome’ is defined as inspiring awe, i.e. feelings of reverential respect mixed with wonder.
To celebrate awesomeness is to pay tribute to all the little moments of amazement, surprise, and beauty in our lives.
As Neil Pasricha, the author of The Book of Awesome, explains, “Life is so great that we only get a tiny moment to enjoy everything we see. And that moment is right now. And that moment is counting down. And that moment is always, always fleeting. You will never be as young as you are right now.”
Celebrating awesomeness is about living in the present and being grateful.
Ways to Find Awesomeness in Our Lives
In The Book of Awesome, Neil Pasricha enumerates all the different ways we can find awesomeness in each moment of every day.
Here are some of his examples:
- Pushing the button for the elevator and it is already there.
- Peeling an orange in one shot.
- Locating your keys after looking forever.
- Working when the boss goes out of town.
- Waking up and realizing it is Saturday.
- Remembering the family car that you had growing up.
- Smelling rain on a hot sidewalk.
- Eating perfectly browned toast.
- Discovering money in your pocket.
- And last, but not least, preparing and enjoying a beautiful meal!
To celebrate the International Day of Awesomeness, how about making a delicious plant-based meal like our Tofu Fried Rice?
We deliberately picked this recipe because it was featured in the 2017 Food Day Challenge Menu Book and people raved about its awesomeness.
Enjoy those little moments of awesomeness every single day!
