The prep time in this recipe for Grilled Portobello Mushrooms may intimidate you. However, keep in mind that it only takes five minutes of active work and then three hours of refrigeration to allow the sweet and smoky marinade to infuse the Portobello mushrooms. 1/2 cup water
5 portobello mushrooms, whole
3 tablespoons low-sodium tamari
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 teaspoon liquid smoke, hickory flavor
At least three hours before cooking, prepare marinade by whisking water, tamari, maple syrup, and liquid smoke in a small bowl.
Clean Portobello mushrooms and add to plastic bag with marinade.
Seal bag, shake to coat, then place in refrigerator for three hours (or longer for deeper flavor).
Preheat grill to high.
Place mushrooms on grill and cook 5-7 minutes per side.
